Math-U-See Placement Tests

Unsure about the right level for your child? Take a placement test to see what Math-U-See recommends.

Available Placement Tests

Math-U-See offers two ways to find your student's level. Choose the option that fits your situation below.

Individual Placement

Our interactive placement tool will help you find the proper placement for your student. This questionnaire includes yes/no questions and example problems to work through with your student if more clarity is needed.

Classroom Placement

The classroom placement tests give insight that will allow you to determine the appropriate level for each student's initial placement. Additionally, a baseline is established to help support later data-driven assessment and progress monitoring.

Our daughter grew so much in confidence in math this year and we’re beyond blessed by your program.

Math-U-See Placement Test FAQ

A placement test is a short assessment that helps you find the right starting point for your student in a specific curriculum. It checks which math concepts your child already understands so they begin at a level that is neither too easy nor too frustrating.
Math-U-See offers two options. Use the Individual Placement tool if you're a parent or tutor placing a single student — it's an interactive questionnaire with example problems. Use the Classroom Placement tests if you're a teacher or school placing a group of students and want a baseline for progress monitoring.
Math-U-See is a mastery-based program organized by levels (Primer, Alpha, Beta, and so on) rather than strict grade levels. Because it teaches with manipulatives and a "build, write, say" approach, a student coming from another curriculum may need to start at a different point than their grade suggests. The placement test makes sure they begin where they'll be successful.
Not much. Have your student ready with a pencil and paper, then work through the interactive questions together. Some questions ask you to confirm whether your student can complete example problems, so plan to sit with younger students as they go.
