What's the difference between Saxon's Algebra 1 books? Which does Nicole recommend?

Saxon publishes two different Algebra 1 textbooks:
  • Algebra 1, 3rd edition - orange/blue cover, includes .25 credit of integrated geometry, should be followed by Saxon's Algebra II, still in publication for homeschoolers & public/private schools
  • Algebra 1, 4th edition - camera on the cover, does not include geometry, can be followed by any geometry course (or any Algebra II without integrated geometry,) published for the school market, going out of print in the near future
With the above options, there are a couple of different paths for Saxon's higher level math. The path Nicole recommends depends on your child’s math skills and desired college/career path.  You can read more about the different paths

The book you have is the 4th edition of Algebra 1. We do have a course for that, however, we do not offer a course for the fourth edition of  Algebra II. So, whether you want to stick with the textbook you have really depends on the path you want your student to take.
