Welcome to Week 1 of Nicole’s Summer Math-a-Palooza!

In my last blog, I told you all about my Math-a-Palooza. If you’d like to read up on the details and how you can sign up, click here.

Week 1 begins Monday, June 5th at 12:00 am EST and ends Saturday, June 10th at midnight EST.  Here’s what you’ll need to get started.

Review the Recommended Topics list. Select 2-3 topics for your student to focus on and assign them a few problems from each topic. Have them work for about 15 minutes a day.
What else should I know? The Plus 0 and Plus 1 math facts are quite easy, and your student will learn them very quickly. That’s ok. Let them have an easy week as it will get harder as the weeks go on.

While you'll be tempted to skip ahead, remember the goal of Drill Team is to learn the facts slow and steady. This will lead to better memorization and retention in the long run.

It's okay to give your student a few “easy” topics. This gives them “wins” and builds their confidence.

They can use the One Minute Tutorial link when they need help on a topic.

Once you see your student has mastered a topic, feel free to move onto other topics.

How are students recognized?Once your student successfully recites the math facts (Day 4), you can submit their name and photo for our Wall of Fame by Saturday at midnight (EST). You’ll find the submission form on the Math-a-Palooza tab in your parent account. Your student will receive 20 points for each correct answer they get on the first try and 5 points for a correct answer on a retry. The more problems they do and get correct, the higher up the leaderboard they’ll be. They can keep track of their point total on the Math-a-Palooza tab on their student profile.
Did you say something about prizes? For each Wall of Fame appearance, your student will receive one entry in the virtual Lunch with Nicole giveaway (which includes a $50 gift card for lunch.). Next Sunday, you’ll receive an email with the link to the Wall of Fame and the Mastery Bank Tournament Winners.

Just a reminder, each week is independent of the others, so if you cannot participate this week, that’s ok.  You can still join in on the fun next week.

Finally, I know that we live in a very fast-paced world, but the mantra of Nicole’s Summer Math-a-Palooza is “Slow and Steady Wins the Race.”  Just doing a little bit each day will set our kids up with the foundations they need to succeed in math and teach them great habits to reach any goal.

Let the Math-a-Palooza begin!

  1. hi Nicole,Under my classes I don’t see mastery bank or my drill team classes? And I’m already behind on the math a palooza

    1. Hi Jolie. Check with your parent. You need to have either a Pro or Premium membership or a summer pass to participate in the Mastery Bank Tournament. They can read all about it here.

    1. Sure. We have two free trials: one for Saxon Math videos and one for Drill Team. You can access both of those by clicking the free trial button at the top of the page. If you are instead talking about the summer program Nicole’s Math-a-Palooza (which ends Aug 31), there is not a specific free trial for that. However, you do have access to Mastery Bank in your Saxon Math video trial.

  2. Hey Nicole! I was wondering how to sign up for the Mastery Bank Tournament of 2024 because I was unable to sign up for it this year because it was too late to sign up when I read about it.
