Though we may not be doing it with a math book in front of us, you and I use our problem-solving skills every day. Saxon gives kids the opportunity to exercise their brains to develop that same skill when it asks them to solve multi-step problems. Then, there is a set of problems that allows for additional practice with that concept. This lesson practice means the student can work and become acquainted with the concept on their own. These few problems allow for that without overwhelming them with too much work on a brand new concept.<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"-6\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"problem-sets-to-review-concepts\"><b>Problem Sets to Review Concepts<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"each-day-the-student-is-given-a-larger-set-of-problems-that-cover-a-wide-range-of-concepts-taught-previously-by-repeatedly-going-back-and-revisiting-those-concepts-the-student-is-aided-in-remembering-skills-and-concepts-for-a-long-time-this-approach-keeps-students-interested-and-prevents-boredom\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each day, the student is given a larger set of problems that cover a wide range of concepts taught previously. By repeatedly going back and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.proctorgallagherinstitute.com\/7146\/the-importance-of-repetition-in-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">revisiting those concepts, the student is aided in remembering skills and concepts for a long time<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This approach keeps students interested and prevents boredom.&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"if-you-talk-about-saxon-for-long-youll-find-that-people-wont-tell-you-that-its-entertaining-or-that-its-easy-or-that-it-doesnt-take-much-time-people-who-love-saxon-tend-to-love-it-because-it-works-is-it-repetitive-you-bet-does-it-work-oh-yes\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you talk about Saxon for long, you\u2019ll find that people won\u2019t tell you that it\u2019s entertaining, or that it\u2019s easy, or that it doesn\u2019t take much time. Concepts that are repeated do take hold in a student\u2019s brain&#8211;and when it come to having a lifelong ability to use math, it\u2019s what you want!<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"expect-that-it-wont-always-be-a-thrill-a-minute-saxon-books-particularly-the-homeschool-editions-dont-have-a-lot-of-graphics-or-color-to-them-they-are-straightforward-and-to-the-point-while-this-might-feel-routine-and-even-boring-in-actuality-the-sparseness-and-lack-of-change-limits-distractions-and-allows-students-to-focus\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Expect that it won\u2019t always be a thrill-a-minute.<\/strong> Saxon books (particularly the homeschool editions) don\u2019t have a lot of graphics or color to them. They are straightforward and to-the-point. While this might feel routine and even boring, in actuality the sparseness and lack of change limits distractions and allows students to focus.&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"expect-that-it-will-take-a-good-portion-of-the-school-day-to-get-through-the-work\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expect that it will take a good portion of the school day to get through the work. <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"it-takes-some-time-to-work-through-the-morning-meeting-or-the-warmup\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It takes some time to work through the Morning Meeting or the Warmup. <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"your-child-will-likely-have-times-where-they-struggle-with-the-problem-solving-section-of-the-day-and-that-struggle-is-a-way-of-learning-in-its-own-right\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your child will likely have times where they struggle with the Problem Solving section of the day&#8211;and that struggle is a way of learning in its own right. <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"and-of-course-if-you-choose-to-do-all-30-problems-its-going-to-take-some-time\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And of course, if you choose to do all 30 problems, it\u2019s going to take some time. <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"and-thats-okay\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AND THAT\u2019S OKAY.&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"look-if-you-need-to-break-it-up-by-all-means-do-i-know-families-who-have-great-success-when-they-start-the-day-with-the-previous-days-mixed-practice-take-a-break-for-other-work-or-play-and-finish-the-day-with-a-new-lesson-and-lesson-practice\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look, if you need to break it up, by all means do! I <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nicolethemathlady.com\/announcements\/school-hacks-that-really-work\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">know families who have great success when they START the day with the previous day\u2019s mixed practice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, take a break for other work or play, and finish the day with a new lesson and lesson practice.&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"of-course-your-need-to-be-freed-from-the-grind-of-math-teaching-and-grading-was-one-of-the-reasons-i-started-nicole-the-math-lady-in-the-first-place-hopefully-that-helps-you-through-as-well\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, your need to be freed from the grind of math teaching and grading was one of the reasons I started Nicole the Math Lady in the first place.
