Why no matter what you try, they just seem to fight the work, to fall apart at any challenge, and can\u2019t seem to get ahead in their lessons?<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s nothing new. I have seen it many, many times in my work as an educator. The fancy term for it is \u201cCognitive Overload.\u201d The rest of us may call it \u201cBrain Fry,\u201d \u201cBrain Drain,\u201d or \u201cMental Fatigue.\u201d It\u2019s when you just can\u2019t do any more computing, thinking, or answer-finding&#8211;and many times, it\u2019s the reason for math tears.<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why do so many kids struggle with Brain Drain when the math books come out? My answer is, almost universally: it\u2019s because they don\u2019t truly know their math facts. They can\u2019t even get into the complex stuff because they are stuck on computing facts that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.differentiatedteaching.com\/math-fact-fluency-matters\/#Why_weve_moved_away_from_memorizing_math_facts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they were to have memorized<\/a> already.<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.nicolethemathlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/031121-Club-Month-Drill-Team.jpg\" alt=\"saxon math facts\" class=\"wp-image-318651\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.nicolethemathlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/031121-Club-Month-Drill-Team.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/blog.nicolethemathlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/031121-Club-Month-Drill-Team-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.nicolethemathlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/031121-Club-Month-Drill-Team-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.nicolethemathlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/031121-Club-Month-Drill-Team-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.nicolethemathlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/031121-Club-Month-Drill-Team-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s why my newest club means so much to me. It\u2019s the natural outcome of our new <a href=\"https:\/\/nicolethemathlady.com\/drill-team-detail\/?v=1d20b5ff1ee9\">Drill Team program<\/a>, but I think it will give so many kids the greatest sense of accomplishment of perhaps any of <a href=\"https:\/\/nicolethemathlady.com\/student-incentives\/?v=1d20b5ff1ee9\">our clubs<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why?&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because this club is for the kids who have struggled. Maybe they tried to memorize facts but couldn\u2019t. Maybe their school focused too much on word problems and testing and not enough on facts. Maybe they got caught in the chaos of the pandemic and just didn\u2019t give it the attention it needed. Whatever the reason, Drill Team is a new way of learning facts that is giving kids a do-over that they desperately need. It&#8217;s also a way to ensure new students coming up get their math facts memorized&#8211;without tears!<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And so what do we do at Nicole the Math Lady when we finish hard things? Why <a href=\"https:\/\/nicolethemathlady.com\/announcements\/beyond-ice-cream-30-ways-to-reward-kids\/?v=1d20b5ff1ee9\">we celebrate, of course<\/a>! And this milestone is big enough to get its own club.<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/nicolethemathlady.com\/docs\/how-does-my-student-get-into-the-math-fact-fasters-club\/?v=1d20b5ff1ee9\">Math Facts Masters Club<\/a> is for the kids who have worked their way through Drill Team, had fun with their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts for the first time, and finally mastered this important skill. First, they give in to the catchy Drill Team fun. Next, they nail the facts. And finally? They possess the ability to work their way through more complex math problems because they have these foundational facts down cold!&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you haven\u2019t yet started <a href=\"https:\/\/nicolethemathlady.com\/drill-team-detail\/?v=1d20b5ff1ee9\">Drill Team,<\/a> let me respectfully ask, why wait?
